Tools and throwables
Tools and throwables in Escape from Playtime are what the crew scavenges when a shift goes thin. The open beta names six carried items: the glowstick, the Syringe, the Sewing Kit, the Doey Bomb, the Hiding Box, and the Redemption. You use the glowsticks when the group splits, and a downed friend can be revived by the Syringe.
Holding a Sewing Kit, a Doey Bomb, or a Hiding Box can interrupt a throw. The Sewing Kit has no known crafted effect, the Doey Bomb has no known blast, and the Hiding Box has no known hide. The Redemption was recently added and will have bugs, and what it does has not been announced. The picture is a vertical shaft, the space you climb between with whatever you are holding.
Six items from the beta
Read each row as a limit, not a crafting recipe. The glowstick marks a path. The Syringe is a revive that can fail at once. The three named throwables can cut a throw short while you hold them. The Redemption is new enough that the beta warns about bugs and stops there.
Damage, craft time, and hide duration have not been announced. Pack for the effects you can count on: a mark on the floor, a risky revive, and a throw that may not finish. You also scavenge for clues, hiding spots, distractions, and alternate routes when the halls close in.
- Glowstick
Mark the path when the group splits.
Use the glowsticks when you are separated from your group.
- Syringe
Revive one downed Critter.
A Critter may die instantly after being revived by the Syringe.
- Sewing Kit
Named throwable in the beta.
Possessing the Sewing Kit, Doey Bomb, or Hiding Box may interrupt throws. No crafted effect is known for the Sewing Kit.
- Doey Bomb
Named throwable in the beta.
Holding a Doey Bomb can interrupt a throw. No blast effect is known for it.
- Hiding Box
Named throwable in the beta.
Holding a Hiding Box can interrupt a throw. No hide effect is known for it.
- Redemption
This is a recently added item.
The Redemption was recently added and will have bugs. What it does has not been announced.
Glowsticks when the crew splits
Proximity voice lets you hear players who are nearer. A microphone is not required, and there is no in-game text chat. Once a friend is far enough that the voice drops, the glowstick is the remaining signal. Use the glowsticks along the route you still mean to share, especially on the first four shifts while the beta route is short.
Zoomies can make the whole crew faster, with the line "The zoomies have struck. Everyone's movement speed is increased!" A faster split is easier to lose. The glowstick does not publish a brightness radius, so place them where the next player will actually walk, beside a door or a turn, not in the middle of a guess.
A glowstick on the floor is a breadcrumb for the next Smiling Critter, not a flare with a known radius. Use the glowsticks in a line the separated player can follow back to Barry.
Revives, throws, and the new item
The Syringe is the revive tool. A Critter may die instantly after being revived by the Syringe, so the crew should not treat the animation as a guarantee. Disassembling a body too quickly after death can hang the game and block spectating, which is a separate fault from the item itself.
Throws are the other fragile action. Holding those three items can cut a throw short, and that is the whole known rule. The Redemption will have bugs because it was recently added. Bring it if the beta offers it, and expect those bugs on the known-issues page.
Scavenge is part of the run, so an empty pack at the start of a shift is normal rather than a missing unlock.
A glowstick marks a path for people, and it is not a light that stuns the hunters.
The shaft is a vertical connection between floors, which is where a dropped throwable is easy to lose.
Keyboard and mouse are the optimal inputs, and a controller that fails can make a timed throw worse.
The first four shifts are the beta route, so item practice during the test happens inside that shorter list.
The Sewing Kit, the Doey Bomb, and the Hiding Box are named together because holding any of them can interrupt a throw.
No crafted result is known for the Sewing Kit, so do not brief the crew on a stitch effect.
No blast result is known for the Doey Bomb, so the name alone is not a damage number.
No hide result is known for the Hiding Box, so standing inside it is not a confirmed safety plan. Look for other hiding spots in the rooms.
The Redemption is new and it will have bugs. What it is for has not been announced.
A syringe revive is worth attempting and worth doubting, because the critter can die again in the same moment.
Glowsticks are the split-group tool on the first four shifts, which is the whole route the beta unlocks.
The vertical shaft is a drop between floors, and a thrown item can leave your hand on the way down.
Scavenge is how the pack fills, so an item you want may simply not be in the wing you were given.
